Meta Ad Account Restricted: How to Appeal
Restricted, disabled, Business Manager banned — Meta uses these like they mean the same thing. They don't. Appealing the wrong scope is one of the most common ways advertisers waste their best shot.
The three levels (know which one you have)
| Level | What it looks like | Recovery path |
|---|---|---|
| Ad account restricted | You can log in, but features are locked — can't create ads, can't edit, sometimes can't spend. | Usually the easiest. Fix the trigger, appeal the account in Account Quality. |
| Ad account disabled | Full stop. Campaigns paused, red banner, "Your ad account has been disabled." | Full appeal process — see our disabled account recovery guide. |
| Business Manager restricted | Everything inside the BM stops: all ad accounts, Pages, pixels, assets. | The hardest. Appeal the BM itself in Account Quality — not the individual accounts inside it. Reviews typically run 14–30 days. |
How to appeal a restricted ad account
- Confirm the scope in Account Quality (business.facebook.com/accountquality). Appeal the asset that's actually flagged.
- Fix the underlying issue first. A restriction for verification failure needs completed verification; a payment restriction needs the payment fixed. Appealing an unfixed restriction gets denied.
- File through Request Review in Account Quality. One appeal, complete, with evidence attached.
- Don't file duplicates. Multiple appeals get flagged and slow the review — one practitioner-verified rule that holds across every case type.
What about the personal profile?
Sometimes the admin's personal profile gets restricted alongside the ad assets. Recover them together — a restricted admin profile can block the appeal flow for the business assets. Complete any identity verification Meta asks for on the profile first.
The honest part: a restriction is usually a warning shot, not a death sentence — which is exactly why it's worth handling correctly. The advertisers who turn a restriction into a permanent ban almost always do it by panicking: opening replacement accounts (circumventing systems) or spamming appeals.
